Kalutara Vidyalaya was founded in Kalutara on 6 January 1941 by Sir Cyril De Zoysa. The college was formed as the twin brother of Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya, the girls’ school. On 13 January 1941 the college officially started with 11 teachers and 56 students. After only six months, the college became a senior secondary school. In April 1946, the college began free education and was handed over to the government. In 1998 the college became a National School. Today the school has about 3,500 students and more than 120 teachers.

The school's water supply was formally arranged and handed over to the students on 15th January 2023. The Association thanks all of you, the alumni, who contributed to this.
The carpeting of the main road of the school was started as part of the 80th anniversary celebration program of the school under the leadership of the Old Boys' Association.
The newly constructed primary school entrance road equipped with a CCTV camera system was opened by Mr. Harshana Peiris, Mr. Sanjeewa Ariyaratne and Mr. Aruna Piyaratne.
We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the next project of KVOBA 2020; Construction of the road to primary school gate and installation of a CCTV camera system at the gate.
The school staffroom, which also comprise with a staff development centre has been renovated and handed over to all our beloved staff members today, on the 29th September 2020.
The newly renovated two story building of Old Boys' Association of Kalutara Vidyalaya was declared to reopen on the 05th of July 2020 with the presence of the present committee members.
