Kalutara Vidyalaya was founded in Kalutara on 6 January 1941 by Sir Cyril De Zoysa. The college was formed as the twin brother of Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya, the girls’ school. On 13 January 1941 the college officially started with 11 teachers and 56 students. After only six months, the college became a senior secondary school. In April 1946, the college began free education and was handed over to the government. In 1998 the college became a National School. Today the school has about 3,500 students and more than 120 teachers.

Nuwan Aravinda on the concept of the President of the Kalutara Vidyalaya Old Boys Association, Mr. Mahesh R. Silva, were launched with a new look by the current Principal of Kalutara Vidyalaya, Mr. G.W.C. Pradeep Leelarathna, at the auspicious moment of 10:00 am on 16.05.2025. We would like to thank the teachers including the Principal who participated in this event, the President and all the officers of the Old Boys Association, the members of the school media unit, and all the members of the Old Boys Association media unit and all those who supported this success.
The "Car Wash" project organized by the Kalutara Vidyalaya Old Boys Association was held very successfully on 27th April 2025. We would like to thank everyone who supported this.

Kalutara Vidyalaya celebrated its 2025 Vesak Festival with a vibrant Festival of Lights, honoring the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha. Held in early May, the event featured traditional Buddhist rituals, illuminated decorations, and community participation, reflecting the school rich cultural heritage.
A highlight of the celebration was the beautifully adorned school premises with Vesak lanterns and lights, creating a serene and festive atmosphere. The event was well-attended by students, alumni, and local residents, showcasing the unity and devotion of the Kalutara Vidyalaya community.
